LOOKS: Lily, like much of her family, is not particularly tall, at simply an average height. She is slightly under weight, as she often forgets to eat in her fits of industry and is very active. Her hair is a rather bright red, thanks in part to her grandmother and the Weasley's. Lily has very full lips and her face is filled with adorable freckles. Her eyes are gray, and slightly rounded. As the only girl in her immediate family, she likes to demonstrate her femininity through delicate clothing.

ALLEGIANCE: Though incredibly loyal to those she loves and is close to, Lily has a hard time aligning herself with anyone she doesn't know directly. She knows right and wrong and will quickly fall in line with anyone on her side of a particular issue. With her father as her hero, she has some vague loyalties to the concept of the order, but has trouble connecting herself. She would be very easily swayed by someone she looked up to (Albus or Rose), and very easily dissuaded by involvement of certain people, namely her eldest brother.

CHARACTER HISTORY: Lily was brought into the world kicking and screaming and her father sagely prophesied that might be just the way she would leave. And while she's no where near leaving, Harry may just have been right; Lily Luna Potter may or may not be the most argumentative, abrasive Potter in the lineage.

Sassy since before she could talk, Lily did not take to sharing at all. Though she could walk long before her first birthday, she could not wrap her head around the idea of sharing until far beyond her fifth and sixth birthday, and then only with Albus.

It was alarmingly apparent from a very early age that Lily was a powerful witch. If any of her cousins, or James, picked on her, mysterious often painful things would happen to them. No one questioned whether or not Lily would be sent to Hogwarts - it was just a matter of waiting.

Finally her letter came. Lily had spent the better portion of the last year anxiously awaiting its arrival - she was nearly 12 years old when it came - and when it finally came she practically threw it out in disbelief (her cousins had tricked her once or twice before with a fake letter). A prompt trip to Diagon Alley was arranged and Lily quickly had everything she needed to attend Hogwarts. It was time for the waiting game.

When the day came that she would leave for Hogwarts Lily could barely bring herself to board the train. After reading the letters Albus had sent home about being sorted into Ravenclaw, she was saddled with a devastating fear that she may be sorted into Slytherin. Disappointing her father was her deepest fear and as she sat, sorting hat on her head Lily followed in her father's footsteps.

Not Slytherin, she pleased quietly. 'But you're so slimy', the hat countered. "I've got more courage in my pinky than James has in his whole body!" she said aloud, but her voice was muffled by the shout of "Gryffindor!" ringing out by the sorting hat.

Lily had never been a natural fit quite anywhere, and Gryffindor house was no different. The other girls of her age attempted to be friends, but Lily was too blunt and abrasive for them. She found comfort in Albus and playing quidditch. The year passed without much ado, except that her teachers promptly discovered her failure in certain classes. This was also when she seriously discovered DADA. She was instantly interested and put her expansive amounts of free time into look up spells and information.

Her second year was something to yawn at; Lily didn't do much of anything. She made a few more friends in older grades and befriended a few more of the ghosts. Though she doesn't like to talk about it, Lily often entertains herself by talking to random portraits around the castle. There are a few portraits that Lily returns to on a regular basis, and she is sometimes late to her classes because she gets caught in up in a normal conversation.

In her third year, Lily went to the try outs for the quidditch, but walked off half way through because James was giving her what she perceived as a hard time. Since then, Lily decided she wouldn't play quidditch until James left, so she happily put the dream off.

Her fourth year came and went without much ado, but as the summer rolled on, Lily was thrilled at the prospect of being a fifth year. After she failed a number of tests, she could be done with the awful classes (Herbology) she had been saddled with all these years. Not to mention that Lily would finally have a chance to play quidditch, and play she does, as seeker. A fact which could not have made her happier!

PERSONALITY: Lily is outrageously passionate and driven, a trait which nearly had her stuck in Slytherin. She can be, at times, one track minded. If she is on a mission to finish a paper, everything else gets pushed into the shade. She forgets to eat, sleep, or do anything not completely involved in her task. While this can be seen as admirable, her relationships and other commitments suffer exponentially.

In the same way as passion, Lily has remarkable self control. The temptation of sweets were nothing to Lily, and if she makes up her mind to keep her word, she keeps it, no matter what the consequences.

Since she was old enough to have a definitive personality, Lily has been fiercely independent. She has never needed nor wanted help and is the first to angrily reject it if offered. She is full of indignant pride and takes serious issue with authority. Lily frequently attends detention for being "disrespectful" to her teachers. The red head in her will not be told to do anything; anyone who wants her to do something needs to be suggestive - Lily must think any idea is her own.

Lily does not tolerate anyone bothering her. Depending on the degree of the injury, Lily does not hesitate to resort to underhanded means to get back at someone. A master of sabotage from an early age, Lily is all about secret revenge. Lily has an extremely short temper and it does not take much to earn a bad position in her book. anyone who doesn't agree with her is unagreeable, obviously.

For all of her bad traits, Lily is caring and usually positive. She is incredibly sweet to those with whom she has agreeable relations and would gladly go to the ends of the Earth for anyone close to her. Her heart is filled with love, she is just careful about whom she offers it out to. Lily will make split second decisions on anyone, regarding whether she likes them, and from there it is extremely difficult to convince her to change her mind.

Unfortunately, this side of Lily does not come without a bad trait of its own; Lily is incredibly jealous when it comes to people she loves. She doesn't like the people she loves even talking to other people, and it is only for the sake of their happiness that she even allows it to happen. Lily once considered letting Albus have a girlfriend, but decided that simply wasn't going to work out.

Lily's favorite pass times include quidditch, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Though she puts little efforts toward her other studies, DADA does not suffer. She is perhaps one of the best in her class and she takes elaborate time to study the dark arts in order to protect herself.

Lily's personality can be quite abrasive. It takes a certain type of person to really enjoy Lily's company. She doesn't have a particularly large friend base, but those that can see past her sarcasm know a witty, intelligent, caring, smart, loving person.

One of Lily's most defining qualities is her privacy. Even with her closest confidant, Albus, Lily is incredibly discrete. She prefers to talk in private, even about mundane things. She keeps all of her belongings under lock and key and threatens anyone who invades her privacy with bodily harm.

Though Lily can be highly disrespectful to certain "authority" figures, to those who she deems respect, she will not cross them. Despite the fact that she doesn't always care for James, she bestows upon him a great deal of respect. Beyond all the teasing and the fun poking, Lily does not retaliate; she can't bring herself to retaliate against her brother or anyone else she
reveres.

WRITING SAMPLE: "No, no, no. Not like that." Lily sat forward in her chair, exasperated. He was absolutely hopeless. "Is she a good dancer?" Lily rested her elbows on her knees and cupped her chin in her hands. This was going to be a lot harder than she expected.

Lily considered herself one of the people closest to Albus, and she knew instantly he would need help with dancing. If this Georgia was as "lovely" and "fun" as Albus described, she would be a good dancer and he would look silly and hopeless. While she didn't approve of him attending with someone other than her, she wanted to see Albus happy, and Lily feared this may be the only way to achieve that. At least Georgia was pretty.

"Do you want me to come up there and dance with you? So you can see what it is like to dance with someone?" Her voice was gentle, but Lily couldn't help but look slightly irritated. She still didn't want Albus attending with her female friend. They better not have been dancing inappropriately; Lily was so ready to be a whistle blower.

Lily stood up hastily, deciding for herself that he needed her direct help. "Do you know anything about slow dancing Albus. The right way I mean." Lily grabbed up his hand in hers, put his free hand against the small of her back and her hand on his shoulder. "See, like this. You should probably lead." She moved them both together, still trying to give him a chance to be the leader. "If she gets tired...," Lily paused, a scowl coming over her face as she thought of an alternative, "she might lean over close to you." Lily scooted forward and rested the curve of her chin on his shoulder. "Just be ready so she doesn't have any unexpected surprises."
